info
52 Ways is a campaign aimed at creating simple life changes to improve health. Designed in partnership with Dr. Justin Varney of Barking & Dagenham PCT, as well as local people and local agencies, the resource provides information, which can have a major effect on both the quality and length of life in Barking and Dagenham.
Utilising the PCT's readers panel of 50 local residents the concepts, text and images for 52 Ways were reviewed and tested. Local people were encouraged to contribute ideas and help the PCT get the language right for the local community.
Using images with local resonance and language, which has been adapted for local context, the 52 Ways resource is a truly broad and accessible campaign
How's it working?
The campaign was officially launched in December 2007. Already, public engagement events using the display materials have attracted over 1,000 residents and have had very positive feedback. The PCT are hoping to see a gradual increase in self-referral, self-examination, uptake of screening services and increased use of NHS Direct and NHS Choices.
Feedback from the PCT suggests that the campaign has substantially increased the concept and understanding of designing for health across the PCT. There has been a positive press and public response, which has led to the commissioning of a web presence for the 52 ways campaign, taking it to a global audience.
