Mary's Been Banned

Mary's Been Banned

21st December 2009

The original Christmas story saw Mary turned away from various inns and left in a stable for the festive period. This Christmas – in slightly different circumstances – we have seen our own Bloody Mary banned from YouTube and left out in the cold for her shocking behaviour.

YouTube have banned the video due to its ‘shocking’ nature and they deem the content too graphic for their users. The Bloody Mary video is part of our Cocktales campaign, designed for Derbyshire PCT to reduce binge drinking in Chesterfield. The clip, which features local actors, had reached 20,000 hits before it was removed by YouTube, and since the ban Bloody Mary has caught the attention of The BBC, Sky News and ITN.

The realistic clip may be shocking, but mishaps like this occur every weekend across Britain, often with far more shocking consequences. Cocktales aims to give young people an alternative to these incidents by educating and promoting safer drinking, and showing them simple solutions to help them enjoy a more dignified end to their evenings.
